MTEC – The First AHDI/AHIMA Approved Medical Transcription School

In the last decade, it seemed like a new medical transcription school came online weekly. AHDI and AHIMA saw a potential problem. Who was going to evaluate and monitor these schools to assure they were teaching their students the skills they needed?

AHDI and AHIMA took on that responsibility. AHDI (The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity) sets and upholds standards for education and practice in health care documentation. AHIMA (The American Health Information Management Association) is the leading association of health information management professionals. In 2005, AHDI and AHIMA formed the Approval Committee for Certificate Programs (ACCP) to certify and approve medical transcription programs. Schools would have to meet their stringent requirements to get ACCP approval.

It’s a significant honor for MTEC to be the first school approved by AHDI/AHIMA.
